The Landmarks Preservation Commission Rules set forth the Commission's application and public hearing procedures, and the rules and standards for work on buildings in historic districts and individual landmarks.
The LPC Rules are found in Title 63 of the Rules of the City of New York, available through an online portal that contains all of the city rules, as well as the City Charter and the Administrative Code. You can also access a PDF version of the LPC Rules.
Proposed work that meets the rules will be approved by the LPC staff. If proposed work does not meet the rules, the application must be reviewed by the full Commission at a public hearing.

On February 13, 2024, LPC voted to calendar proposed amendments to Chapter 2 of Title 63 of the Rules of the City of New York, consisting of amendments to existing rules, including amendments relating to roadway and sidewalk cafes. The public hearing on the proposed amendments was held on April 16, 2024. On May 7, 2024, the Commission voted to approve the proposed amendments , which went into effect on June 24, 2024.
On April 9, 2024, LPC voted to calendar proposed amendments to Chapter 2 of Title 63 of the Rules of the City of New York, consisting of amendments relating to the installation of bus shelters. The public hearing on the proposed amendments was held on May 14, 2024. On June 18, 2024 the Commission voted to adopt a final rule for the placement of bus shelters in areas under the jurisdiction of the LPC. The final rule was published in the City Record on June 26 and went into effect on July 25, 2024.
